Kindle 3

The Kindle 2 was already the bestselling eReader, and had a lot of great features to help it reach that designation. Free 3G access, global 3G coverage and text-to-speech all made the Kindle 2 attractive, and all carry over to the Kindle 3. But you don’t stay on top by being complacent, so Amazon made some really sweet changes that made the bestselling Kindle even better. Here are the Top 9 Kindle 3 improvements.

eInk Pearl Screen technology – The Kindle 2 had eInk, but not the Pearl technology. This improvement alone increased contrast by a massive 50%.

Wifi support – Kindle 3 has Wifi and 3G connectivity for $189, or Wifi only for $139 ($114 with special offers) to make the Kindle attractive to all users.

Lighter, thinner, smaller – 17% lighter, and 21% smaller and much thinner without losing screen size, the Kindle is even more portable and easy to hold without tiring your arm.

Added fonts – Amazon added Font sizes and styles that were not on Kindle 2, like Sans-Serif, and used wave form technology to make all fonts sharper.

Improved battery life – A whopping 30 days on a single charge means the Kindle takes portability and freedom to a whole new level. A full 10 days when using wireless is awesome too.

Faster, quieter page turns – The page turns were a bit slow on the Kindle 2, and have been sped up considerably. And no more loud “swish” when the pages are flipped. Nice.

Memory improved 100% - Up to 3,500 books, apps and games can be stored now, so you’ll never run out of storage space.

Better PDF capabilities – Kindle 3 lets you highlight test, use a dictionary without leaving your spot in an eBook, password protect PDFs, and make notes in the margin.

Text to Speech is added to Home Page, Menus – Now you can have menus, item descriptions and your book lists read to you.

Price – This stayed the same at $189 for the 3G Kindle 3, but when you consider all the improvements, it is really a huge bonus. And the aforementioned Kindle Wifi is very affordable with all the same features at $139 ($114 with special offers).
At $189, the Kindle 3 with 3G is exponentially better than last year’s Kindle, but remains the same price. And now offering a Wifi model at $139, and even an amazingly low $114 with special offers, the Amazon kindle just keeps getting better and better.
