Verizon Wireless to Scrap Data Plan

Tonight, 8 April 2011, Verizon has announced that it is dropping the 1 year contracts.
Verizon Wireless has confirmed with us that it will eliminate one-year contracts starting April 17. Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney said that most customers sign up for two-year contracts anyway to take advantage of the lower promotional price. What does this mean?  Well if you have one-year contracts already, this is going to have no effect.  If you have a two-year contract, month to month, or prepaid plans, starting 17 April, you will no longer be able to get one-year contracts.  As of right now, this looks to be as far as the changes go, but I haven't seen any reasons why Verizon is making these changes, so I am slightly worried.
