Apple Updates iMac

Apple powers its iMac® with next generation quad core processors, influential new graphics, pioneering high speed Thunderbolt I/O technology and a latest FaceTime® HD camera. Beginning at $1,199, the new iMac is 70.00% quicker and enhanced graphics bring up to three folds the performance of the preceding generation.

Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, Philip Schiller, stated that users love the iMac’s aluminum enclosure, stunning display and all-in-one design. He added that with next generation quad core processors, dominant new graphics, ground breaking technology and a FaceTime
HD camera, company had made the best desktop even better.

The new iMac offers quad core Intel Core i5 processors with a choice for customers to choose Core i7 processors equipped 3.4 GHz. These new built processors have an integrated memory controller for remarkably reactive experience and a powerful latest media engine for high presentation of video encoding and decoding.

Powered with new AMD Radeon HD graphics processors, the new iMac has the most powerful graphics offered by any an all-in-one desktop.

iMac is the pioneer computer on the market to include revolutionary Thunderbolt I/O technology. The 21.5 inch iMac has a single Thunderbolt port, whereas the 27 inch model offers two ports for even greater expansion.

Thunderbolt, which was developed by Intel with collaboration from Apple Inc. and also known as 'LightPeak', enables expandability by no means available on an all-in-one computer. It has two bi directional channels with transfer speeds up to unusual 10Gbps each.

Thunderbolt supports DisplayPort for sharp resolution displays and also operates with existing adapters for HDMI, DVI and VGA displays.  LightPeak is not like USB.  They are two completely different technologies.  LightPeak uses optical fibre technology while USB uses copper cords.  Even though LightPeak is faster than USB 2.0, USB 3.0 is about equal in bandwidth.  Moreover, all USB generations (USB 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 [USB 4.0 is still in beta testing and results have not been published]) can power devices such as an iPod or cell phone.  USB 3.0 is able to power lager devices like external hard drives and printers.

Moreover, iMac contains a built in FaceTime HD camera as well as Apple’s pioneering FaceTime software, wide screen video calling, which can be enjoyed by the whole family. The newly offered camera supports high definition video calls between all FaceTime HD powered Macs and standard resolution calls with iPad® 2, iPhone® 4, the existi9ng generation iPod touch® and new Intel-based Macs.
